Jenni Mullen | November.01.2021

Pandemic Upends Intern Abroad Experience: But Also Lends Opportunities

Emma Freese | October.18.2021

Interning abroad is an experience filled with opportunities. Students are given the chance to travel, live, and work abroad, explore a new culture, gain intercultural skills, and so much more.

COVID-19 changed a lot of things, one of which being the world of international education. COVID forced us to adapt and find new ways to gain international experiences, one of which being virtual programs.

After March 2020, our world changed. Instead of shaking hands when meeting new people, we shifted to a wave, or the occasional elbow tap -- and that’s if we were lucky enough to meet in person.

Instead of a small talk at the start of a meeting or class that time was used for people to ask the most important of questions: “Can you hear me?” and “Can you see my screen?”. As Zoom became the most used app on everyone’s computer, virtual internship abroad programs grew in popularity.

Global Experiences’ Virtual Internships Has Landed

Molly Haskell | April.16.2020

Excitement was flowing and wanderlust was in the air -- spring interns were enjoying their time abroad and others were getting ready for their summer adventures. That was before we heard the word “pandemic,” first used by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020, in reference to the rapidly-spreading coronavirus.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put experiences on hold in a dramatic way. It has brought challenging and uncertain times to countries around the world and disrupted many plans.

We care about each and every one of our program participants, which is why we made the decision to end our spring programs early and proactively cancel our summer intern abroad on-location programs.

This disruption forced us to think about our mission in a different light -- How to adapt? How to continue providing life-changing experiences around the world if our participants are unable to board a plane and travel abroad?

We may be in isolation, but we are not alone. Let's put mobility challenges aside and do something impactful for the future of work and career paths of our participants.

Finding Your Jewish Community Abroad & Celebrating the High Holidays

Kate Ziegelstein | September.27.2019

Active Jewish communities can be found in every corner of the globe. Outside of Israel, the world’s largest Jewish population is in the United States. Other countries included in the top 10 may surprise you! France is third on the list, the UK is sixth, and Germany and Australia round out the top 10.

While there are three main denominations within Jewish practice (Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform), identifying as Jewish does not necessarily mean “religious.” There is also cultural Judaism, and many people who identify as Jewish consider themselves secular.
