Emma Freese | February.28.2023

Want to intern abroad, but not sure where to go? San José offers the opportunity to intern is a range of fields whether you don’t speak any Spanish or if you’re looking to improve your language skills. In a country where 64% of the land is covered in forests and 25% of the land is set aside for national parks, this is the perfect location if you’re interested in a career focusing on environmental sciences, sustainability, or maybe you like living in a city, but don’t want to be far from parks, forests, hikes, etc. Not interested in an internship in environmental sciences? That’s fine too, San José has internship opportunities in non-profits, psychology and social services, marketing, computer science, and so much more!

Emily in Paris (But Not Really): What It's Really Like to Intern in Paris

Tessa Lane | February.14.2023

No shade to the hit Netflix romantic comedy series but let’s be real, your internship experience in Paris will not be á la Emily in Paris. To put it simply, the average Parisian employer does not have the streaming giant’s production budget to turn a look for the aesthetic (Lily Collins’ character, Emily, really can pull off a bold print) or orchestrate the perfect accidentally-on-purpose meet-cute. Sure, your internship experience probably won’t be exactly like a highly produced rom-com series but that doesn’t mean that you can’t gain valuable experience interning abroad in Paris!

Remote Internships-Biggest Pandemic Success Story in Global Education

Emily Merson | April.05.2021

A little more than a year ago, the Global Experiences team was challenged to move its spring semester global interns from in-person to remote internships.

Many students required credits from the internship to graduate and we worked with hundreds of our partner employers to move to remote supervision to ensure academic continuity.

While we rushed to reorient our participants and partners, I challenged our whole team to work together to build a new virtual internship program from scratch. How could we create a virtual program as successful as on-location programs we had been refining for almost 20 years?

We had no idea at the time what the biggest issues or opportunities would be, and whether the experience would measure up to the benefits of interning abroad, in-person.

Is a Virtual Internship Worth It?

Molly Haskell | December.17.2020

In short, yes.

Internships are essential for university students and recent graduates -- they are the stepping stone from academics to working life. Internships help you take what has been learned in the classroom and put it into practice.

With COVID-19 still among us, internships have taken to the “new normal” and  been fully transformed to be remote work settings.

The remote workplace has become a reality for many, making it a great time to build your resume and gain professional work experience without leaving home!

A virtual internship is worth it for many reasons… it reduces juggling travel uncertainties, it trains students on a new set of digital skills and independence, and most importantly, it provides flexible and convenient professional experience.

Don’t let travel bans stop your career growth!
