Tips and Tales From Around the Globe

It’s that time of year; more and more rainbows are rolling out at your local Targets and even pasted on plastic mouthwash containers.

Pride is everywhere in the United States, which is completely different from over a decade ago. Gay marriage existed in only select states, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy featured gay men that happened to fit most stereotypes, and many subcultures of the LGBTQ+ were generally unknown to the public at large.

It wasn’t unusual for people from this community to escape to international locations where gender and fashion seemed more fluid - Spain, Italy, and France - just to name a few.

As the U.S. has generally become more progressive in LGBTQ+ rights and certainly enjoys the commercialism, what is the rest of the world doing?

Why do people from these communities all over the world flock to large cities to participate in lavish parades, attend wild parties, and often spend sleepless nights reciting favorite movie/tv lines and dancing to the divas of the past and present?

It’s quite simple. They feel at home.

Through the many twists and turns, we watched as the battle for the throne stretched across seven kingdoms and north of the Wall. At times Game of Thrones was emotionally draining or even frustrating, but the show took us around the world to many stunning locations. Changing lives and making the world a better place are a few things we’re passionate about at Global Experiences. During the month of April, we stepped it up and really gave back. Every student and young professional who enrolled in our internship program in April chose one of four distinct, yet equally impactful charities for us to donate $100 to.  It’s been a hundred and ten years since the first International Women’s Day was held in New York City. Since then, every year on March 8th we’ve celebrated women worldwide for their accomplishments.

On this International Women’s Day, we wanted to celebrate a few of the fabulous women on our team who are all at different points in their career, and share their stories on what inspired them to pursue careers in international education.

International education is thriving in Canada and Global Experiences is thrilled to be part of it.

We work hard to give university students and young professionals across Canada the chance to intern abroad. We continuously build upon partnerships with Canadian universities to share the value and accessibility of these experiential learning opportunities. Read on to see how 2019 is set to be one of the biggest years for international education in Canada.

Over 9,000 attendees from over 100 countries gathered in the city of Philadelphia for the largest international education event in the world - the NAFSA International Educators conference - and Global Experiences was there to be a part of it!  

This scholarship isn’t just an investment in me, but in the future of people that see me going this summer, they can realize that there are opportunities out there that you might not have realized back home.
