Global Experiences Launches Charity Initiative

Global Experiences

Changing lives and making the world a better place are a few things we’re passionate about at Global Experiences. During the month of April, we stepped it up and really gave back. Every student and young professional who enrolled in our internship program in April chose one of four distinct, yet equally impactful charities for us to donate $100 to. Read on to find out why we, and our interns, want to give back.

Why our interns care

From an early age, millennials and generation Z were exposed to a diverse range of social issues. Surrounded by technology and social media, younger generations learned about climate change, education, women’s rights, social issues, and much more from around the world.

Their hyper-awareness caused generation Z and millennials to become more passionate and active than previous generations. Either through monetary donations or by donating their time, younger generations have turned their passions into charitable giving.

Pencils of Promise

Pencils of Promise (PoP) believes that every child should have access to quality education while bridging them to a global community. PoP builds schools, creates quality educational programs, and increases literacy rates in third-world countries like Ghana, Guatemala, Laos, and Nicaragua. So far, they've impacted 99,875 students.

“I've been extremely humbled and inspired at the challenges that underfunded school children have to overcome in order to have the opportunity of receiving a formal education. I personally believe that education is one of the most important things in one's life and that it is education that can truly change lives for the better all throughout the world.”

Dress for Success Worldwide

Dress for Success empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and development tools to help them thrive in work and in life. This non-profit has expanded to 150 cities in 30 countries and has helped more than 1 million women work towards self-sufficiency.

Alex's Lemonade Stand

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) is dedicated to changing the lives of children with cancer through funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and more. Since cancer-warrior Alex set up her first lemonade stand in 2000, they have funded nearly 1,000 research projects at 135 institutions.

“I have worked with a local charity called Angels for Allison, which supports families that have lost children, most due to cancer. I love working with the ladies in this organization and the cause that it supports and am happy to choose Alex's Lemonade Stand.”

Environmental Defense Fund

Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) works to solve the most critical environmental problems facing the planet, focusing on climate change, restoring the ocean's bounty, protecting wildlife and their habitats, and more. With decades of growing results and new approaches, they tackle these issues with smart, lasting solutions.

At the office

It’s not just our interns who are passionate about giving back, it’s also our staff. Throughout the year, we worked as a team to give back to our local community and the surrounding area of Annapolis, Maryland. As a team, we made hundreds of packed lunches for Lighthouse, a local homeless prevention support center.

During the holiday season, we decided to adopt a Head Start classroom through St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore. Head Start is a comprehensive pre-school education program designed to prepare low-income children for academic success and promote age-appropriate social skills.

Global Experiences staff with donated-toys

Supporting a classroom of 17 pre-elementary students, our team was able to donate multicultural games, world globes, puzzles, books, instruments, posters, sensory and fine-motor skills toys, science kits, library chairs, and additional supplies. It was awesome to work with a local charity that supports cultural diversity and education at a young age.

We’re proud of our interns for deciding to help so many worthy causes and make an impact on the world. Global Experiences is committed to giving back and giving our interns the opportunity to do the same!
