Testimonials about Fashion Design
"It was worth every penny, for I have learned things that no one can teach you but yourself, and there is no better place to do so than half-way around the world, in Italy, doing what you do best."
"My internship was more than I ever could have hoped for. So many opportunities and learning experiences; Global Experiences helped me to grow in both professional and personal ways."
"[I] was taken in as part of the team and provided with a wealth of experience over a range of areas within the company. Excellent experience."
"My internship in Florence, Italy was absolutely amazing. I met some new lifetime friends from around the world, also gained new talents from my internship that will help me in my job market. I would not trade my experience for anything."
"My experience was challenging but definitely enjoyable and extremely rewarding. I am so glad that I chose to do an internship abroad and Global Experiences was key in making that dream a reality."
My first day: Walked into work today to a room that was filled with muslin, dress forms, partially finished garments, lace, and black and white pictures of designers and models. The room smells like Madame Isabelle's expensive cigars combined with the very masculine sent of her secretary's cologne. In the corner there is, no lie, a gold skeleton and in the next room a pair of lovebirds that often ride around on Franck Sorbier and Isabelle's heads. I spent the whole day learning tiny stitches that have to be done absolutely perfectly. Isabelle would come by to check every so often, leaning over me with her impressive figure that is always draped in black and her beady eyes squinting from under her blunt, page boy haircut. While I was there, they were doing some castings for the fashion show and every once in a while a model would come in, walk for the designers, have her measurements taken, and leave. I like how our parents and other people always lie to girls and say that people in the fashion magazines don't exist because they are retouched and everything. Well they do exist because I saw three of them: tall, thin, and gorgeous. Practically perfect and completely un-retouched. Anyway, I found out a few things about my designer today. First is that they're a very well-known name in France. Second is that they are one of the best, true haute couture designers in the world. They are the only ones who still do all their sewing the traditional way. Everything is done by hand and even lace is reembroidered in a particular stitch that isn't used by other designers anymore. Pretty cool and I'm interning with them. I'm still trying to figure out how exactly I got into this internship working along side a graduate from Esmod. But I'm not complaining. Madame Isabelle said today that if I keep up with my strong work, I can help her with a sleeve. So I guess that's what I'm looking forward to tomorrow :)
“This was the best experience I have ever had. Coming to Italy has made an effect on my life, and will help me even further in my career as a fashion designer...I benefited greatly from interning abroad rather then in my home country because I was given a lot of hands on experience... I know that this experience will help open tremendous employment opportunities for me in the future.”
"From my internship through Global Experiences, I learned invaluable knowledge about the fashion industry over a 2 month span that I would have only learned through actually working along with a designer and seeing how the company functions."
"I loved my internship with an eco-fashion design company. Being in London was an amazing experience; every day was different and I really got a chance to immerse myself in the culture. I am a fashion design major and although my internship was not in design it was still very valuable because I learned a lot of new skills in areas such as graphic design and public relations that I know I will use in the future."
"Global Experiences helped me get the internship I have always dreamed of...Living and working in Italy was a great learning experience. It helped me to become a better problem solver in many areas...Future employers will be able to see that I have a great understanding of the industry and am able to handle tasks that maybe someone else could not handle."
“I learned so much in the past weeks at my internship. I would have never learned all of this just in school.”
"Global Experiences created opportunities I may not have had without my Internship in London. They were able to match my interests and career goals with a wonderful and experienced employer. Without Global Experiences, I believe I would not have had this once in a lifetime opportunity, which helped me achieve my goal of interning abroad that I set for myself at the beginning of my college career. From start to finish Global Experiences made the entire process simple, organized, and fun."
“I had the most amazing summer. I couldn’t have asked for a better placement. Thanks to GE for making it happen!”
