I have had a fabulous first week. It has gone so quickly! Firstly the other interns, who I met last Friday, and myself went to a zoo in Sydney last Sunday and we are also going out tonight for a meal and maybe a couple of drinks! They all seem lovely! In a couple of weeks there will be more work to do with their birthday celebrations events so that will be exciting. But overall a wonderful first week in Sydney! It is forecast to be 27 degrees this weekend so think I’m going to head to the beach!!”

"I faced a lot of challenges in the internship. Chiefly, the lack of organization. I became increasingly alarmed about the company’s procedures and its motives for hiring interns and I spoke to my local representative at length about my concerns. I had no intention of requesting a different placement as I did not want to abandon the office in there obvious time of need, so I did the best I could with what I had. By the end of the internship I had created a folder for new interns and employees with detailed instructions and tips on how to handle situations and necessary information regarding the company and the city. I loved Sydney! Everything about it! The only challenge was how expensive things were but I feel that I was able to budget accordingly and found ways to save money -walking to and from work only took about 45 minutes and provided a good method to check out local shops and scenery. Not to mention exercise! The other interns were nice and we got along for the most part. I feel as though I learned a lot during my time in Sydney, both with work and in other areas. While at work I learned a lot about ‘what not to do’ I did also get a feel for the industry and whether or not it’s something I want to focus on for a career. Also, after expressing to the publicist that I was there to learn as much as possible, she did whatever she could to help, including finding Excel tasks in her free time so that I could become more familiar and skilled with Excel. Being so far away from family and friends for such a long time provided a lot of learning experiences as well. It sort of forces you to put some priorities into perspective and really decide what you want to focus on (short term and long term). I tend to be a bit of a control freak and even a little high strung at times –something about being in a totally different country on my own forced me to calm down and take things day by day. I definitely think that this internship experience has helped me in creating and meeting career goals. Before the internship I was pretty directionless, as far as what I actually wanted to do for a career. I now know that I am passionate about PR and I feel confident that I will have a successful future in the industry. Global Experiences has given me a wonderful addition to my resume while providing me with real work experience and a life changing trip. My advice for future interns would be to keep an open mind and a positive attitude. Things may not happen the way you hope or expect but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t something to be gained. Even a negative work experience can teach you what not to do and even an uncomfortable social situation is an opportunity to learn about other people and grow as an individual."

“[This was] my first time away from home and I was most welcomed by my coworkers. I was weary of the kind of reception I would have [as a] foreigner and an intern. The team of seven women welcomed me and took me under their wing for six weeks. Every day was a new challenge and a new experience, and I learned more than I could have ever thought. I was taken to client meetings, allowed to sit in on candidate meetings, and was asked for important feedback in weekly sales meetings. As an intern you expect a good amount of pointless work and I was given the exact opposite. The owner and operator of the business made sure that every day I was given a new task and allowed me to experience for myself how a business is truly run. I entered work every day trying to make an impression and exceed expectations. [It] was a great company to work for and I was even offered a regular full time job once my studies were completed. I felt more accomplishment in six weeks than I ever had before and the internship program instilled in me a certain confidence. If you are going into any sort of communications field it is IMPERATIVE to have an internship if not two. Global Experiences gave me this opportunity and I have made many great connections because of it. Up to this point my internship in Sydney has been the greatest adventure of my life and I will return someday!”

I worked in the news room at one of the biggest radio stations in Sydney as a reporter and learned far more than I ever expected. My colleagues were overwhelmingly accommodating and friendly, and put an enormous amount of trust in me. Most importantly, I met wonderful people from all over the world, some of whom will be lifelong friends."

Working in the city was a great opportunity for me as well as living in Sydney. I was able to see some great parts of Australia and meet many great people. The program takes you out of your comfort zone and allows you to develop skills that will benefit you in future endeavors when you return home. I would recommend going abroad to any student currently considering the option.

The legal experience was awesome, but the best part was by far growing up and maturing as an adult. It was such a great learning experience and it was just fantastic to be on my own away from constant emails, phone calls and texts and be able to just enjoy life. I met so many wonderful people and made some great long lasting connections. It may have cost me a bit in loans but it was worth every penny. I think about it every day and miss so many things about it. The experience definitely changed my life for the better! I should thank you profusely for suggesting I go [to Sydney]. The best thing I ever did was take your advice! So thank you for everything, it really made all the difference and impacted my life in such an indescribable and positive way!”

“I recently just returned from Sydney and have been slowly readjusting to the United States time schedule. I had a fantastic time in Australia and would recommend this experience to everybody. This internship experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I believe to be very worthwhile and will benefit anyone greatly. Another potential benefit of this trip is the opportunity to earn a full-time job, as a number of people from the group I went with were offered full-time positions, which they may return and pursue after the holidays. I was able to fulfill my goals on this trip, learn new things, and overcome challenges I faced. I also received lots of independent experience and face fears of being out on your own in a different country. Global Experiences places you in a fantastic situation, with a great internship and good living conditions, providing you with all you need to have a great experience, the rest is what you make of it.”

“My internship was easily the most meaningful in my life. The research I completed goes further than a single line on my resume; the experience has made so many unobtainable professional opportunities available. I can definitively say that I would not be in my current professional status if it were not for the work that I created under the guidance of [my supervisor]. I didn't make copies or coffee; my days were spent almost 100% on research. This internship gave me a project that was mine to put my name on; job interviews as a result are an absolute breeze. [My supervisors at my internship] are the best people I have ever worked with. Clear with expectations and goals, it was easy to deliver what they needed. When it came down to doing more research and push expectations, I was trusted to take the reins and develop my own project. I was treated like a colleague with much more respect than I was due; I worked side-by-side with colleagues that had a decade of experience on me. It was humbling and valuable to be in this working environment. I know I will never get another placement like this one. My supervisors treated me as family and repeatedly took me on excursions into the Blue Mountains.. I came very close to staying in Sydney because of how much I enjoyed this placement; I genuinely recommend it to any serious intern that is self driven.”

We work with thousands of employers worldwide covering a broad range of academic and career fields. Once you inquire with Global Experiences, we learn as much about you and convey the types of placements that are available. We are generally able to let you know in our first contact whether you are a good candidate for our program. As we guarantee our internships, Global Experiences will not accept you into the program unless we are confident about finding a suitable placement.

Once you are accepted into the program and pay your program deposit, Global Experiences will immediately begin formalizing your internship placement.
