“Everything [about the program] was great. I remember talking to Chrissie at the beginning and she was really helpful. I was really nervous doing everything over the phone because I found you guys online-but I think I was handled really well. I joined the program really early and I had a lot of attention throughout the process.
The placement process went smoothly and our Location Coordinator, Carolyn, was phenomenal. The activities that were planned were fun and it was nice to meet up with other English speakers.
I've taken French for most of my life so improving my language was the main reason I wanted to go Paris. I really wanted to speak French at home and at work. The experience helped because I learned how to express ideas in the workplace instead of just within a classroom. My host mother [in the homestay] was a French teacher, so on the first day she asked me, "French or English?" and I said "French". I think she spoke to me in English maybe twice the entire summer. We really got along and she helped me with some French grammar too.
In my internship I did some translating from French to English for their blog. I blogged, and I managed their Twitter and Facebook accounts. I got to do some reporting and took pictures of expos and scenic areas around Paris. It was helpful in defining a career path because I learned a lot about what I don't like to do and what I want to focus on in the future for my career. It was rather exciting living in a big city by myself. I became a huge museum nerd and made it a point to really soak it all up."
Sophia Virani University of Western Ontario
I hope all is well with you. I wanted to take this time to formally thank you for helping me set up my internship in Florence this summer. I have been having a lot of fun out in Europe, making new friends, exploring new places and cultures, and traveling to many foreign cities. I appreciate all of the time and energy you spent trying to find the best fit for me. Florence is a beautiful city, and I’m very glad it all worked out ending up here. I’m here for another 10 days, and then off to travel to Milan, Barcelona, Valencia, Paris, and London. I thought I would attach a picture just to show I am having a wonderful time in Europe (I’m the one in the red pants).
Thank you again for helping me create a memorable summer in Europe. I will be in contact with you in the future if I decide to go on another Global Experiences trip or If I have any other friends who are interested in pursuing this opportunity as well.
Take care, and all the best!
"Certainly, I believe that my work experience abroad will give me an edge against the competition especially in this economy. It will also boost my resume. It was a great experience and worth every penny."
"I cannot fully express in words how my internship with Global Experiences has changed my life. Coming back home, I am a new person who has grown more than I ever realized I could in 3 months living abroad."
“I went to a fashion show this afternoon which was really good fun and now have a stack of Australian fashion magazines which came in our goody bags!
I have had a fabulous first week. It has gone so quickly! Firstly the other interns, who I met last Friday, and myself went to a zoo in Sydney last Sunday and we are also going out tonight for a meal and maybe a couple of drinks! They all seem lovely!
In a couple of weeks there will be more work to do with their birthday celebrations events so that will be exciting. But overall a wonderful first week in Sydney!
It is forecast to be 27 degrees this weekend so think I’m going to head to the beach!!”
