"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education.” - Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King’s legacy is more than what has been taught to us through out the years, as the years pass we can determine the importance of his work and why his words inspired so many people. His impacts in the civil rights movements, policy, diversity and education are continued to be seen every day. His views on civil rights, racial equality and the end of segregation are all things we can be thankful for today. His work has been shown immensely in education and especially education abroad where we can see the reflection of opportunities that have been opened and created for all students today.
Celebrating Dr. King’s work, and using this time as remembrance and appreciation to all he has done is very important. If you are in New York City, attending one of the various events that will be happening around the city can be a great option for celebrating this important day.
Below are some good options:
Martin Luther King’s work has surpassed borders, his passion for racial equality and desegregation has affected the way we currently live, work, study and travel. The correlation between his mission and ours at AIFS Abroad in making Access, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity a part of everything we do in AIDE is important today.
