Testimonials about Advertising/Marketing/PR
"Ireland always seemed like an ideal location for me to visit and my mom's family is from there. It was really important to me that my internship be in English too. I did a lot in my internship. On a typical day, I spent the morning responding to emails regarding newsletters and great marketing materials. In the afternoons, the company would gather for a staff meeting to discuss creating the newsletter for the end of the month and go over priorities. I contributed to the creation of the newsletter, updated Twitter, and did research on the companies I was assigned. I also did a lot of prep work for presentations for clients and investors. It was great because I got to use the skills I learned in class and apply them to my internship. My confidence really grew because I was sure that I could complete the tasks that I was given. I didn't encounter a lot of the challenges that I thought I would because I'm use to being away from home. Culturally and socially, no I didn't have any issues. The main challenge was the weather! I did have to learn how to adapt to an international work environment and working with a multinational staff. It was a fun challenge, and a big part of the learning experience, to learn how to communicate effectively and successfully. Advice for future interns: Biggest thing is to keep an open mind. Don't be afraid to put yourself in uncomfortable situations because they will open doors for you in the future. Opening your mind to the way that other people live their lives is a huge part of this kind of experience."
The internship with Global Experience helped me prepare for the future. It was great experience learning different fields and being in a new environment. Because the internship was an international firm, I worked with colleagues from all over the world and communication could be a challenge. I really had to think about how I wanted to phrase things. I was nervous for the internship as well because I'm not a big writer and I really wanted to make sure I was doing well. The position opened up new opportunities and working for that firm taught me job preparation skills. Dublin was amazing! They really understand how to use public transportation and people are not afraid to walk anywhere. The food is great because they don't have any preservatives so everything is really fresh. The people there are all really friendly too.
"I always had an itch to live abroad. Global Experiences gave me the opportunity to jump start my career in the fashion industry and begin networking with professionals in the field. I will always remember this experience both professionally and socially. I've had the time of my life and know I'll be able to look back at this point in my life and smile at the memories I've made with my friends here."
It was a dream waking up each day able to challenge myself in a profession I am passionate about, test my bounds in an exciting new culture, and be able to do it all in a city I love. While developing competitive skills and gaining an unparalleled internship experience, I made enduring memories while on lunch breaks in the Marais, exploring the exhibits at the Pompidou, and taking in the City of Lights aboard a dinner cruise on the Seine.
“[This was] my first time away from home and I was most welcomed by my coworkers. I was weary of the kind of reception I would have [as a] foreigner and an intern. The team of seven women welcomed me and took me under their wing for six weeks. Every day was a new challenge and a new experience, and I learned more than I could have ever thought. I was taken to client meetings, allowed to sit in on candidate meetings, and was asked for important feedback in weekly sales meetings. As an intern you expect a good amount of pointless work and I was given the exact opposite. The owner and operator of the business made sure that every day I was given a new task and allowed me to experience for myself how a business is truly run. I entered work every day trying to make an impression and exceed expectations. [It] was a great company to work for and I was even offered a regular full time job once my studies were completed. I felt more accomplishment in six weeks than I ever had before and the internship program instilled in me a certain confidence. If you are going into any sort of communications field it is IMPERATIVE to have an internship if not two. Global Experiences gave me this opportunity and I have made many great connections because of it. Up to this point my internship in Sydney has been the greatest adventure of my life and I will return someday!”
"I have just completed a 6 month language internship course in Milan. Having the opportunity to live and work in Italy has always been a dream of mine and thanks to Global Experiences I was able to fulfill this. I completed my internship in the Marketing and Communications department of a real estate company and was responsible for all the translation into English on their new website. I also translated the company's first book and was involved in organising the launch party for this. The company has now offered me a 12 month contract with them, based in Milan, to assist further with translating, the translating of their second book in the summer and also with the opening of their new office in New York. This experience so far has been amazing, and this is only the start. I would strongly urge anyone who is considering something similar, to do it, as it can be a life changing experience and if it is anything like mine, you will enjoy every minute, make many new friends and learn a new language as well. Good Luck!"
“My work [in Rome] was varied and rich. While my core responsibility was to help redefine the company's marketing strategy. The place was brimming with creativity.”
"My internship, along with my social and cultural experiences outside the office, helped me realize the great extent of my independence and abilities. It allowed me to learn more about myself and develop better confidence. I think employment abroad on a resume will impress any future employer for all the skills and personal experiences I have built on. I wish I were able to stay longer! "
