Global Experiences offers three opportunities for an internship in Shanghai, an 8-week program in the summer, and a 12-week program in either the Spring or Fall. Each of which can be used for Credit at your University! Every program includes one-week of Business Language training prior to the start of your internship, which makes the experience ideal for college and university students looking for a cultural introduction to their internship in Shanghai. On-site location staff help you to adjust to the pace of the city, provide you with guided tours and information, and help to make you feel at home. Our Interns live in a centrally-located international student residence, just 15-minutes from The People’s Square, National Museum, along with an assortment of Chinese universities.
Shanghai is the financial capital of China. Coined as “The Paris of the East”, it is home to more than 23 million and is one of the critical ports in the world. Since the economic reforms of Deng Xiaoping in the mid-70’s, Shanghai (Translated to: “Upon The Sea”) has transformed itself from a sprawling migrant community on the Yangtze River, to one of the most successful and riveting cities in Asia. Opportunity is booming in Shanghai, class divisions are exposed with little warning, and the conflicts of modernization are thrust upon each and every person that weaves through its vast avenues and crooked alleyways. During your Shanghai internship, you will discover many layers of history and hidden signs of the past around every corner.
At its heart, is a culinary scene that celebrates the resourceful farm-to-table approach that has long defined its eating habits, alongside the spoils of modernized, processed foods. Dollar noodle shops straddle gleaming fast food, and lifetime street cooks compete with the demands of a generation of workers increasingly looking for convenience to satisfy their daily sustenance. Chaos and confusion are around every corner, and a litany of lessons are to be learned each day. The lights never shut off, and the noise rarely lets up, even for a moment. If you are a curious, energetic person that loves to explore, then a China internship may be for you!
