Italian Language Training
Each program begins with full time intensive Italian language training in a group environment. This fully accredited course is provided by three of the top Italian language training institutions in Italy , all of which are recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education and have been in existence for decades. Though many of those who enroll are from the US, participants are from a wealth of other countries around the world, thus providing you an even greater multi-cultural experience. All levels of Italian training are available. Your language skills will be assessed in the first week of your program so you are placed in the level most applicable to your abilities.
Participants enrolling in one of our short programs (9 week, 10 week or 3 month) in Florence or Milan and who have not studied Italian for at least 2 semesters will be required to enroll in our Beginner’s Package which includes 12 extra private or mini-group lessons (depending on the number of beginners commencing their programs on the same start date).
All participants will be issued with a certificate for their Italian class that can then be used to assist with gaining university credits. We can help facilitate university credit with you so please inquire with our staff.

What Should I Expect from an Internship in Italy?
- Invaluable practical work experience abroad
- An unparalleled cultural experience
- Experience that differentiates you from all other applicants in the prospective employment market
How we choose your Internship Placement
A placement with a company or organization in Italy will be based on the following four factors:
- Your level of Italian proficiency at the end of the language portion of your program. All placements require a minimum level of proficiency, some more than others. Remember the progress that you make in the language is dependent on you!
- Your past relevant experience and study. Some placements do not require any past experience but many require some formal training, university level study or previous professional experience.
- The length of time you will be working with the placement company. Generally speaking, the longer your internship placement lasts, the better the placement as the company knows you will be there longer and therefore they will provide more responsibility.
- The experience you wish to gain from your internship as described in your application form. Please be honest and specific with this section of the application.
Global Experiences uses carefully chosen placement agencies in Rome, Florence and Milan that work with us to provide international work experience for young professionals. Once you apply for a program we begin working with the relevant placement companies to secure you an internship.
You will not know where you are working until after you have arrived in Italy since Italian companies require an in-person interview to ensure a proper match of your skills to their needs. Meetings with our internship coordinator take place during the language portion of your program. At this meeting, you will have the opportunity to discuss your needs based on what has been pre-selected for you
It is important to note that one should have some experience, either academic or professional, in the placement area for which you are applying. This experience is subjective and therefore assessed on a case by case basis. If you are not sure whether you have the minimum experience expected, be sure to inquire with our Program Coordinators.
Global Experiences and its partners work hard to locate internship placements in the first or second area of choice provided on your program application. After completing the interview process, you are expected to accept the position upon receiving the offer by the company (provided that it matches 1 of the 2 internship areas provided on your application). If, after the interview, the company is unable to offer an internship we will provide you with another opportunity to interview with a different company. We will do this up to a total of 3 times. Rest assured that our success rate is extremely high but it is important to understand the placement process fully.
We monitor the intern's progress for the duration of the program. The participant is also guaranteed a statement of reference from the company upon successful completion of the program.
Global Experiences has placed hundreds of Interns in Italy with a wide variety of Italian language and professional skills, matching them with the most suitable placement companies.
Accommodations
Accommodation is offered in all of our program locations and is included in the cost of the program. It is important to understand our accommodations policies and how they relate to your program. More general information regarding accommodation in Italy can be found by clicking here .
University Credit
Why not earn university credit for completing this program? Global Experiences participants can receive independent study course credit through our university affiliate, Eastern Washington University (EWU). These courses are designed to allow for independent study and require you to delve deeper into your international experience through a series of written observations and academic journals during your time abroad. Upon completion, credits may then be transferred to your university or college.
To learn more about this opportunity through EWU or how else you may be able to receive university credit for your Global Experience, please see our University Credit page.
Please note, depending on your program location, you may be required to pay an additional transcript fee of 50 Euro. This nominal fee covers the extra program monitoring and official transcript preparation required for presentation to your university faculty advisor.
Obtaining Visas
For most nationalities, visas are not necessary for programs of 3 months or less. Programs longer than 3 months require a student visa, which we will help you facilitate. For American students obtaining study visas for Italy, please keep in mind that the application process is not always a simple one and visa requirements vary depending on your state of residency. If you are an American student interested in a program longer than 3 months please discuss the details of the Italian visa system with a program coordinator. For UK applicants and others in Europe, as members of the EU, visas are not needed. If you are an applicant from another English speaking country such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand or South Africa there are fewer conditions required for obtaining a student visa. Australian and New Zealand applicants have the option to apply for a working holiday visa for Italy. Applicants from other countries should inquire with our program coordinators directly to determine the visa considerations for their situation.
* Be sure to inquire with our program coordinators as soon as possible regarding the visa issues as they relate to the program in which you are interested.
