This photography and photo archiving agency has a comprehensive political and social photographic archive that documents all aspects of Irish contemporary life. Interns will assist in the selection of images from the archive for online exhibition, scan negatives and slides utilizing Photoshop, write and edit summaries (rhetorical blurbs) from longer documents as captions, perform background research and reporting on the events depicted in the archive images and provide support to the archive curators and staff members who require images from the archives. Industrious and ambitious interns may also have the opportunity to take the lead in the creation of a strategic plan with recommendations relating to proper catalog, storage and marketing protocols and procedures or another special project that utilizes their background and interests.
Ideal Candidate: This internship would suit students interested in Information Systems (Library Science), History/Sociology of Ireland, and Photography students interested in candid, action, sports and general assignment photography. Ideal candidates are rising juniors (minimum) with good grades and strong organizational skills. Applicants need to be computer literate and comfortable with applications such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Flash, Fireworks and good working knowledge of Dreamweaver a plus. Students with a strong interest in Irish cultural are preferred.
