This week has been one big humid build up to the weekend. Yes, it’s true. Everyday here is like the weekend – it’s always a party in Spain, but in the context of this weekend, it’s a holiday!! Monday night I went to my favorite Italian restaurant (nom nom gnocchi), and Tuesday I spent a wonderfully refreshing afternoon at a hotel pool. This was an especially delicious treat considering how much temperatures have skyrocketed in the past week. I’m certain you could cut the humidity with a knife. Wednesday was more of the official kick off to my “weekend” because it was Kate’s birthday. I woke up refreshed and ready to celebrate. After work, Sileas and I walked to El Cortes Ingles and got a few goodies in honor of the big day. Birthday decorations a lá streamers and balloons are harder to find in España, but we still managed pink champagne, cake and candles.
I wanted to go somewhere special for Kate’s birthday, especially considering it was her last night out in Sevilla. My supervisor at work, Blanca, suggested a beautiful little restaurant in the Santa Cruz neighborhood for her birthday dinner – it turned out being the very same place I went for my last dinner in Sevilla three years ago, so it was more than fitting. After dinner, we made our way to Club Rosso by Antique, where Toba surprised Kate with wine and her very own table. We danced the night away and it was a very successful birthday night – I collapsed into bed around 6am and got up for work at 9!!
Thursday was another especially hot day. I spent the day working at the office while the attorneys were busy, busy with court and lots of paperwork. It’s been more than interesting watching them in action. Thursday night, we went to Buddha for yet another IPS “International Party Sevilla” rager. It also marked the end of many student’s last night in Spain as their programs all ended today. Buddha was one of the best nights I’ve had in Sevilla, we spent the night dancing and fought the heat with cold drinks and fans. Bittersweet because many of the friends I made were leaving in the wee hours of the morning.
Today was spent in recovery mode. I haven’t been feeling well all week and although I did not imbibe the alcoholic beverages as much as my cohorts may have enjoyed (I’m a working woman after all!), I think the heat, exhaustion and poorly refrigerated food finally got to me. I am looking forward to a good night’s sleep and a weekend ahead throwing our very own pool party. When it’s this hot outside, the only solution is to be well wet. I’m looking forward to a good night’s sleep and a fun weekend at the pool!!
