As my internship is nearing an end, I thought I would update everyone on how it has all been going… I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the company and the employees better these past two months. The typical day for me now is only four to five hours, which has been really nice. I’m able to go in and do the work they need me to do, and leave in the afternoon to explore Florence some more.
I’ve become really close with the other intern and the three Italian girls who work here. We all have lunch outside together on the patio everyday, where it’s actually warmer than inside the office. When it’s just the five of us working in the office, they like to play music and goof around. It’s been fun to see the lighter side of work here because the first few weeks were pretty intense with the owner in the office all the time. They even went out and bought me a chocolate croissant one day! It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever had and easily made my day!
Most of the work I’ve been doing has all been marketing and research for upcoming events and clients we want to contact. I was able to attend and help set up at a medical conference one day. It was only two of us setting up at first so there was a lot for me to do and I was asked for my opinion a lot which was really nice. During the event, I stood outside, directing people in Italian to where the event was being held. I really enjoyed getting to see the end product of all the work we do, even though it was for a smaller event.
We’ve also been doing a lot of marketing for their event this fall in the Vasarian Corridor, which they are opening for tours all fall with actors that are meant to take guests back in time to the Renaissance. The Corridor is an exclusive elevated passageway that connects the Uffizi Gallery to the Pitti Palace. The passageway crosses the Ponte Vecchio and was built so that the Grand Duke Cosimo I de’Medici could move between his home and the government palace and have better control without having to walk in the public. Today it is rarely open to the public, so it has been a very fun and interesting event to be working on. The other intern and I have been doing scans of articles in newspapers and magazines talking about our event and then uploading the scans to the Facebook page. It has been a really successful event so far, so it’s nice to be part of it all!!
I only have two weeks left working here and I know I’ll miss it, especially the people I’ve been working with. They’ve been so nice and welcoming and made the experience a lot of fun.
