Dublin Sports Internship Review – Chris from Penn State

My internship is going very well. I’ve done quite a few different things here at the station. Obviously you know that I’ve been helping host the Sports View on Sunday nights here. I’ve done a lot of work in production and programming/ audio engineering. I am helping many people record their shows then piece it together into either a 28 minute or 59 minute podcast style show. It is community radio so some people just want to come into the studio and host a show, so I help with the production side of things for them (and help teach them what sounds better over the airwaves and why.) I am helping two members of the station with audio documentaries they are working on. One woman is pretty much finished and I am piecing it together and adding sound so it flows smoothly. The other woman I am helping is still in the very early stages of gathering interviews and piecing it together. I am helping her organize her information and piece it together in a way where it sounds appealing to her audience.

If I am not doing any production or programming I work on my morning show that airs on Wednesday mornings (I started it up last week). And I help the news team with getting sound for different big events happening in the community. A few weeks ago I was a member of the Irish media and recorded sound of Irish President Mary McAleese giving a speech for the official opening of a new exhibit in the Dublin Zoo. The Presidential elections will be taking place at the end of the month so I’ve been following that and gathering information. As for sports, the GAA All Irish Final was remarkable to watch in a pub, especially when the Dubs won the match. And I’ve been following the Rugby World cup so I can talk about it on air with the sports guys (Ireland lost to Wales in the quarterfinals unfortunately). I’ve been doing some rugby training with my friends so I can understand the sport better.teach them what sounds better over the airwaves and why.) I am helping two members of the station with audio documentaries they are working on. One woman is pretty much finished and I am piecing it together and adding sound so it flows smoothly. The other woman I am helping is still in the very early stages of gathering interviews and piecing it together. That is a sum of what I’ve been doing over here. It is absolutely amazing over here and time sure is flying by (Can’t believe I’ve been here for a month already.)
