I have been keeping busy at work designing an apartment for a client in Florence. June 24th we celebrated festa di San Giovanni where we ate a picnic at the beach, watched the firework show, and then released lanterns into the sky. That same weekend was the historic game, Calcio Storico where men are released from prison just to play in this game. The game is a combination of rugby, soccer, and football, and consists of pretty much battling to the death to score a goal.
On the weekends we have been traveling and went to Verona to see both Romeo’s and Juliet’s houses and saw the Opera, “The Barber from Sevilla.” I then went to Venice, ate delicious food and rode a gondola, but unfortunately the gondalier did not sing! I found Venice incredibly expensive but absolutely beautiful and fell in love with the architecture there. This weekend we went to Cinque Terre which is translated to “five towns”, hiked through three of the towns and then relaxed at the beach and ate pesto and drank wine at the fourth town. Next weekend we are going to Rome and to see the Florence sights because we have not been to any yet!
