Hello, hello! Today was my first full day in Sevilla and it started around 1:30 in the afternoon. I finally fell asleep around 1am Spain time and was wide awake around 7am. I made myself fall back asleep and when my alarm went off at 1pm, I was definitely dragging. I went to Mari’s around 2:30 for lunch and quickly remembered the difference in meals between Spain and home. She served me a plate that consisted of about 5 pieces of carne frío con salsa (cold meat with sauce), salad, a half dinner plate of mashed potatoes and a half loaf of bread. I plowed through the best I could, but she wasn’t happy that I couldn’t finish. It was a nice, quiet afternoon spent watching the “weekend news” and left with helado (ice cream) and a full belly.
My feet were aching and my body was tired, but I decided to use the rest of the afternoon to explore Sevilla. I walked to the center of the city and memories came back quickly. Everything in Sevilla is closed on Sundays because of the traditional rule that Sundays are a day of rest, but there were still many people out and about and exploring. I had a map in my left hand and my camera in my right, but there were many other tourists doing the same thing so I didn’t feel as strange. I actually figured out how to get to my residence fairly quickly and did not have as much trouble maneuvering the streets as I would have thought. I did stop off to pick up some bread, deli meat and Nutella (obviously) so I would have some food for tomorrow.
Upon my return home, I met two of my other roommates, Americans, who were fresh off the plane. Kate is from Chicago and Caleb is from Washington. They will both be in the same class as me tomorrow, and all of the roommates including myself have already decided on dinner and drinks tomorrow night. Joe (bless his heart) gave me his leftover hangars so my clothes are no longer hanging haphazardly in the closet.
Today went much smoother than yesterday, but I think a good night’s sleep has a lot to do with it. On that note, I’m really getting tired and am afraid I’ll have to go to bed much earlier than last night. Class starts promptly at 9am tomorrow, so I’ve got to be ready to go.
